Sixth Grade Fundraiser

Send a carnation or two to a teacher, friend, parent or whoever you would like to give a little luck or just to put a smile on their face. The 6th grade is selling carnations for just two dollars. Each stem is tubed with water. Please submit the order forms and payment to Julie DiGoia by this Thursday, March 7th. If you would like to send a carnation to more than one person, please make a copy of the form. Proceeds will benefit 6th grade fundraising events. The carnations will be distributed to the classrooms on Friday, March 15th. And don’t forget to dress the part on the 15th — for the Wearin’ of the Green celebration.

2nd Annual Read-a-Thon Concludes

We hope everyone read lots and lots of pages over the last 6 weeks. It’s time to tally up your pages and bring in your pledges. Here’s what you need to do to successfully complete this year’s Read-a-Thon:

  • Add up the total number of pages you read and tell your sponsors.

  • Pledges can be collected in cash or check, or paid through the PTG website – flaggstptg.org – using the DONATE button. If you make a pledge through the website, please include thew name the student you are pledging for and that student’s classroom teacher to help us with our record keeping.
  • If you have any questions, please contact Michelle Putnam, PTG Treasurer at treasurer@flaggstptg.org.

PRIZES!

  • $25, $15, and $10 gift certificates to spend at the Scholastic book fair this spring for the 3 students who read the most pages at each grade level (K, 1st, 2nd, etc.). (Three winners per grade level.)

2nd Annual Flagg Street School Read-a-thon!

Dear Students & Families,
It’s time for the Read-a-thon Competition! This is a friendly way to encourage Flagg students to read and is an important fundraiser for the PTG. Our goal is 80,000 pages read at Flagg Street School between December 17th and January 31st. Students can read or be read to. Please consider pledging!

Here is how it works:
1) Set your goal for the number of pages you are going to read during the Read-a-thon. Think big!
2) Ask parents, relatives or neighbors for a per-page pledge (e.g. $.05, $.10, $.20 per page you read) or a specific donation amount if you reach your reading goal. (If you don’t get pledges, it’s okay, you can still participate and have a chance to win.)
3) Write the names of the people who pledge and the amount pledged on the pledge sheet.
4) Every time you read, write down the date, the name of the book and the number of pages you read in your reading log.
5) On February 1st, add up the total number of pages you read and tell your sponsors.
6) Collect your pledges and bring them in to your teacher by February 15th. If you don’t have any pledges, still bring your reading log in and we’ll count that towards the prize-winning totals.

PRIZES!

  • $25, $15, and $10 gift certificates to spend at the Scholastic book fair this spring for the 3 students who read the most pages at each grade level (K, 1st, 2nd, etc.). (Three winners per grade level.)
  • Award medal for the student who reads the most pages in each class. (One winner per classroom.)
  • Trophy for the classroom at each grade level with the most total read pages. (One winner per grade.)
  • Award certificate for every participating student– regardless of if you collect pledges or not.

The Rules – What counts for the Read-a-thon:

  • Reading a book, magazine, online article or story
  • Reading alone or being read to
  • Reading silently or out-loud
  • Reading in your classroom during school

**Reading social media, the mail, cookbooks,
songbooks, directions on how to put your new toy together, directions on how to get somewhere, texts on a phone, movie sub-titles, and things like that, do not count.

In order to win a medal or gift certificate students must read a minimum number of pages: Kindergarten- 50 pages; 1st grade- 100 pages; 2nd grade- 200 pages; 3rd grade- 300 pages; 4th grade – 400 pages; 5th grade- 500
pages, 6th grade – 600 pages. (For reference, 600 pages is 3 Diary of a Wimpy Kid books.)
