With the holiday season upon us, and all of us missing the normalcy of a Flagg Street holiday concert, our wonderful music teacher has put together a holiday sing-a-long for our students and their families. On Wednesday, December 23, let us dress in holiday attire as Mrs. Blankenship leads a 50 minute program aiming to spread holiday cheer! This will be a virtual experience and a link will be provided as we get closer to the event date. Please read the outline below to plan your family’s time to sing.
Wednesday, December 23
9:30 a.m. – Intermediate Grades 3-6
1:00 p.m. – Primary Grades K-2
(50 minute programs)
*Family photos can be e-mailed to Mrs. B at wagmerm@worcesterschools.net

Flagg Street School invites you to shop our Online Book Fair and support our school! The Fair runs from 11/23 – 12/6. Our Fair will feature a Virtual Fair walk-through so you and your kids can experience the magic of the school shopping experience: Browse titles by grade, meet popular authors, and much more! All purchases will benefit our school directly (25% back in rewards!). Don’t miss these two weeks of events, fun, and books.
Our First Day of School at Flagg Street School is 100% remote and starting
Grades 1-6 start Tuesday September 15
Kindergarten Starts September 17
From Mrs. Lubuski:
We are currently coordinating the distribution of Chromebooks for our students in grades 1 through 6. Any Flagg Street student who does not have a device currently is entitled to borrow a District Chromebook. You must call us this week to reserve a Chromebook.
Students in kindergarten will be receiving iPads this year. These are on order; we will contact kindergarten parents just as soon as they are available for pick up.
We also have a limited number of hotspots that are available only for families who do not have any internet service. We must reserve these for families most in need.
Finally, we are currently putting together “tool kits” for our students with school supplies, math workbooks, grade-level readings and other tools for remote learning. Each student will need to pick up one tool kit.
If your student needs to borrow a Chromebook for use in remote learning, please call Karen Johnson, School Secretary at (508) 799-3522 beginning Tuesday, Sept. 1st. Karen will be available in the office from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. through Thursday.
The distribution of Chromebooks and Tool Kits will be as follows: Tuesday, September 8: Grades 4, 5 and 6 for Chromebooks and Tool kits from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Grades 1, 2 and 3 for Chromebooks and Tool kits from 12:30 TO 2:30 p.m. Kindergarten students for Tool kits only from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. We will also be available on Wednesday, September 9 for make ups.

This past March PTG meeting we were able to hear from our partnership specialist, Jermoh Kamara, MPH, CHES, from the 2020 Federal census. She has forwarded along this information about the vital 2020 census:
As we all know billions of federal dollars are needed to support key programs at the State level and without the funding, low-income and communities of color will be greatly impacted over the next 10 years.
Welcome to the Flagg St School Driveway! We are so happy you are here!
If you would like to drive in the school driveway, please plan ahead so you won’t be tempted to break any of our morning drop off driveway rules:
1. Students must get out the right side of the car.
2. You must stay in the car. That means you must not get out of the car. It’s two ways of saying the same thing. Because it is important.
3. You must not pass anyone in the driveway.
4. You must turn right out of the driveway. You must. Even if you want to turn left. You can’t. You must turn right. It’s a rule and please don’t be that one that thinks it doesn’t apply to you. Because it does. It applies to everyone. Turn right. There’s even a sign to remind you. To turn right.
If these rules don’t suit you, please park (not in the driveway) and walk in. Our Lauren (crossing guard) keeps us all safe crossing Flagg.
If you’re still reading this, you probably aren’t a rule breaker. 🙂 So can you spread the word? Thanks!

It’s time for the Read-a-thon Competition! This is a friendly way to encourage Flagg students to read both independently and with their families while also serving as an important fundraiser for the PTG. Our goal this year is to have 150,000 pages read at Flagg Street School between December 20th and January 31st with 100% participation! Students can read or be read to. Please consider pledging!
Here is how it works:
1) Set your goal for the number of pages you are going to read during the Read-a-thon. THINK BIG!
2) Ask parents, relatives or neighbors for a per-page pledge (e.g. $.05, $.10, $.20 per page you read) or a specific donation amount if you reach your reading goal. (If you don’t get pledges, it’s okay, you can still participate and have a chance to win.)
3) Write the names of the people who pledge and the amount pledged on the pledge sheet.
4) Every time you read, write down the date, the name of the book and the number of pages you read in your reading log.
5) On February 1st, add up the total number of pages you read and tell your sponsors.
6) Collect your pledges and bring them in to your teacher by February 15th. Sponsors may also pay via PayPal on our website, make sure they make a note of which student they are sponsoring for the Read-A-Thon. If you don’t have any pledges, still bring your reading log in and we’ll count that towards the prize-winning totals.
